Mr. William "Mervin" Hanson of Carrollton, Georgia passed away July 13, 2009 following an extended illness.

He was born September 9, 1923 in Stanhope, Iowa, son of Theodore Lawrence Hanson and Neva Lucille Philp Hanson. Mr. Hanson made his home in Stanhope, Iowa until he moved to Carrollton, Georgia in 2001 to live with his niece and husband, Neva and Keith Higgs until several years later he made his home at Carrollton Manor. Mr. Hanson served his country in the army, had worked in farming, Sunstrand Corporation, and various occupations throughout his life. He drove a school bus for a number of years, where he had some fond memories of his school bus kids.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Lawrence Hanson and sister, Baby Girl Hanson, Also two brother in laws, Jack Tiernan and Al Collins and a niece Theresa Tiernan.

Survivors include sister, Lorraine Collins of Carrollton, Ga., Evelyn Tiernan of Ft. Dodge, IA., Sandra Miller and husband Larry of Stanhope, IA, and Brother Dale Hanson and wife Margaret of Stanhope, IA. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

The body will be cremated with a memorial service being held at a later date at the Lawn Hill Cemetery in Stanhope, IA.

William "Mervin" Hanson of Carrollton, Georgia passed away July 13, 2009 following an extended illness. A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Lawn Hill Cemetery, Stanhope. A celebration of life will be held Sunday from 1-3 p.m. in the basement of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Stanhope.
