Herbert Otto Heiden, age 92, of Williams, died on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at his home. Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Tuesday at the Vernon Lutheran Church, Dows with burial in the Vernon Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-6 P.M. Monday at the Surls Funeral Chapel in Williams.

Herbert was born on April 24, 1917 to Ernest and Anna Marie (Thorman) Heiden in Vernon Township of Wright County, Iowa. Herbert attended school at a Vernon Township rural school. On March 12, 1950, Herbert married Vivian Sweedler. Herbert was baptized and confirmed and active his entire life in the Vernon Lutheran Church. He enjoyed his time with his family, friends, horses and gardening. Herb made his lifes work crop farming, raising hogs, and polled Hereford cattle.

Herbert is survived by his wife of 59 years, Vivian; a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Janice Kay Patten Heiden of Williams; a sister-in-law, Doris Heiden of Alden; a brother-in-law, and his wife, Kenneth and Arlene Sweedler of Williams; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and all seven of his siblings, Myrtle Rockow, Mable Schutt, Vernie Schutt, Irvin Heiden, Sr, Fred Heiden, Goldie Nachazel, and Leo Heiden.
