Lillian Fertig, 89, Fort Dodge, and formerly of Sac City, died on Monday, Aug. 6, 2007 at the Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City, Iowa.

Olga Lillian Barthman was born in Sac City on Dec. 21, 1917, the daughter of John and Dora (Waterson) Barthman. She grew up in Sac County and during this time was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sac City. Lillian was married to LuVeen James “Jim” Fertig from Odebolt, Iowa. To this union, seven children were born.

For many years, Lillian was a homemaker and helped with the farm work. In later years, she was a foster grandparent with the Fort Dodge school district.

Lillian is survived by her aunt, Mildred (Waterson) Barnhill, Sac City; her sister-in-law, Darlene “Swede” Barthman of Lake City; her children, Marge and Frank Gordon, Lake City, Don and Becky Fertig of Sac City, Barbara Bogardus of Callender, Jim and Nancy Fertig of Lake View, Michael and Kit Fertig of Webster City, and Pam and Steve Roach of Bellingham, Wash. Other survivors include her 23 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jim in 1986; daughter Shirley Anson Goheen; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside services are Saturday, Aug. 11 at 1 p.m. at the Oakland Cemetery in Sac City. The Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City is in charge of arrangements. There is no visitation.
