Clyde J. Rex, a resident of West Des Moines Bickford Cottage, passed away on Nov. 2, 2008 from kidney failure. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008 at Westover Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 2 pm in Ellsworth at Homewood Cemetery. Following the graveside service the family will greet friends at Ellsworth United Methodist Church.

Clyde was born Sept. 8, 1922 in Webster City, the son of Clyde and Alice (Wilson) Rex. He graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1941, and then served in the U.S. Army. He was a farmer for 30 years in the Ellsworth/Radcliffe area, and served as Hamilton County Supervisor from 1960 to 1968. For two terms, Clyde served as a State Representative in the 63rd and 64th General Assembly in the House of Representatives from 1969-1972. Clyde was a State Field Auditor for 11 years until his retirement. He was a member of Iowa Pioneer Lawmakers, Moose Lodge, Eagles Lodge and American Legion. Clyde enjoyed golfing, cards, ballroom dancing and wintering in Apache Junction, AZ.

Clyde is survived by his daughters, Jean Clydene (Larry) Branda of Clive, LeAnn (Renner "Chip") Ventling of Highland, Ind., Debra Kay Rex of Earlham, Jill Janean Beni of West Des Moines; companion, Faith Buell of Des Moines; sisters, Alice "Peggy" Hanson of Jewell and Dorothy Appelgate of Story City; twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm, Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008 at Westover Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 6200 Aurora Avenue in Urbandale, IA 50322 or the American Kidney Fund, 7315 Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda, MD 20814.
