Helen G. Harris, 86, Webster City, died Friday, July 11, 2008 at the Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the Faith United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Willer and Dr. Charles Smith officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Webster City. Visitation will be at the church from 5 p.m. on Tuesday, and after 9 a.m. Wednesday. Arrangements were made with Foster Funeral and Cremation Center in Webster City.

Helen Gordon Harris, daughter of Steven and Eva Mae Butrum Gordon, was born Oct. 18, 1921 in Little Falls, Minn. She received her education from Webster City Community Schools. On June 9, 1938, she married Robert H. Harris in Webster City. She worked for over thirty years at the Hahne Printing Co. in Webster City until their closure. She worked at Thompson Pharmacy for several years until her retirement.

Helen is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Rochelle Harris, Mitchellville; daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Miles Butler of Webster City; grandchildren, Jodie Butler (Mrs. Douglas) Cue of Sharon Center, Matthew Butler of Columbus, Ohio, and Lenette Harris (Mrs. Toralf) Strand of Exeter, NH; six great-grandchildren, Jacob and Tyler Cue, Jared and Carly Butler, and Henrick and Celia Strand, and her aunt, Minerva Kaye of Red Wing, Minn.

In addition to her husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gene, David, and John Gordon; sister, Mary Gordon, and grandson Robert Lee Harris.

Helen's life reflected her special interests in her family, church, young people and the empowerment of women. She was active in PTA, and created and managed the White Fox Boys Club. She pioneered the youth program at her church, serving as the youth counselor for many years as well as Sunday school teacher. In addition, she was a member of the Women's Fellowship of the Faith United Methodist Church, holding several offices. Helen was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club where she served as State President in 1974-1975. Other community activities included the Hamilton Hospital Auxiliary as a volunteer at the hospital gift shop, a member of the Chapter EL of PEO, and the Hamilton County Legion Auxiliary. She loved playing cards and Bingo with her friends and family. Her hobbies in later life were cross-stitching, quilting, and crocheting. Helen was an avid reader, but most of all she loved people.
