Lois Miller, age 92, died Friday, June 12, 2008 at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral service was at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at the United Church of Christ in Jewell. Burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. Becker Funeral and Cremation Service entrusted with arrangements.

Lois Helene Kurtz was born Tuesday, May 2, 1916, to George and Maude (McGrew) Kurtz in Prescott, Iowa where she attended both grade school and high school. She graduated in 1934 and attended Iowa State Teachers College where she graduated with a teaching certificate. She later attended Drake University and graduated in 1967 with a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. She was an elementary school teacher for 22 years, the last 12 years at the South Hamilton School District.

On June 9, 1945, she married Andrew Charles Miller of Jewell, Iowa at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Andy preceded Lois in death on June 19, 2003. Lois and Andy both enjoyed traveling in their motor home which they first started doing in the late 1950's. From that point on, they traveled extensively throughout the United States staying in both Florida and Arizona during the winter months. They belonged to Local Good Sam's Chapter, the Hawkeye Dodger's and SOS travel and camping groups. Along with traveling, Lois enjoyed working in her flower garden, studying genealogy, working with and for her church, and working with young people in 4-H. She was also an active member of PEO, serving as Chaplain, Corresponding and Recording Secretaries.

Lois is survived by numerous relatives including, Ruth Kurtz, her sister-in-law of Rochester, Minnesota; nieces, Dyanne Judd of Kankakee, Illinois, Marlene Evens and Barbara Treichel of Rochester, Minnesota and Diane Krejci of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandnieces and nephews, Heidi Peck and [redacted] of Cedar Rapids, Caroline Setta of Crown Point, Indiana, Sarah Romano, Melissa Treichel, Nicole Gunn, Matt Treichel, Bryan Evans, and Nathan Evans of Rochester, Minnesota; and great-grand nieces and nephews, Nicole Caroline and Thomas Scott Romano of Rochester, Minnesota, Gabriella Dyanne Setta of Crown Point, Indiana, [redacted]and Kristyanna Alizabeth Evans of Rochester. Lois is also survived by her care giving neighbor, the Charles Jewell family. Her only sibling, Maurice Kurtz, preceded her in death in 2001.
