John F. Rose, 71 of Stratford, passed away on Monday morning, April 7, 2008 at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

John was born on August 18, 1936 to Franklin and Bessie (McMichael) Rose in Boone, Iowa. He lived his entire life in Stratford, where he graduated from Stratford High School in 1956. He worked along side his father delivering propane for Rose Gas Company.

On June 4, 1961, John married Juanita Miller at the Pilot Mound Methodist Church. The two had three children Carrie, Kevin & Lorna. After his father passed away, John and his wife, Juanita took over the gas company until 2000 when John retired due to health reasons.

John served in the Iowa National Guard for a number of years. John loved watching his children and grandchildren grow up, as well as attending their various activities.

He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford and had been a member of the Masonic Acorn Lodge #601 AF & AM in Stratford for 49 years.

His parents and a brother-in-law, Richard Stemmerman, preceded him in death.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Juanita, children Carrie (Kevin) Farley of Boone, Kevin (Tricia) Rose of Stratford, and Lorna (John) Chapman of Clermont; nine grandchildren who meant the world to him, Jon and Joel Farley, Dylan and Makenzie Rose, and Carmen, Maria, Olivia, Audrey and Aaron Chapman; one sister Beverly Jeanelle Stemmerman of Des Moines; numerous nieces and nephews. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother that will be missed everyday.

Services will be held Thursday morning, April 10, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford with Lay Minister Gina Spohnheimer officiating. Interment with presentation of the flag by the Frederick Sonksen Post #576 of Stratford will be in the South Marion Cemetery south of Stratford. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday morning from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service at the Calvary United Methodist Church.

There will be a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening, April 9th at the Calvary United Methodist Church.

The Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
