Gary Olmstead, 56, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, passed away Monday, March 17, 2008, at Ellsworth Hospital, Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be held 10:00am Saturday, March 22nd at Saint Mark's Catholic Church, Iowa Falls, Iowa. A time of visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:30 pm Friday evening at the Linn's Funeral Home, Iowa Falls, with a Scripture service to be held at 7:30 pm. Burial will be at the St. Mark's Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Due to Holy week; in lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family c/o his wife: Sue Olmstead, 2510 Ellis Avenue, Iowa Falls, Iowa, 50126. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Gary D. Olmstead was born January 12, 1952, at Webster City, the son of Betty Maxine [Arnold] and Roy William Olmstead, Jr. He attended the Webster City Community Schools graduating with the class of 1970. He attended Iowa Central Community College, Webster City Campus. On August 2, 1975 he was united in marriage to Suzanne Marie Mullen at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Iowa Falls, Iowa. To this union two sons were born: Matthew and Daniel. He was first employed with the Jewel, Iowa, Police Department from September 7, 1972 to 1974, transferring to the Iowa Falls, Iowa, Police Department from 1974 to 1981. He worked for Arnold Motor Supply, Webster City, Iowa from 1981 to 1986. Gary joined the Hardin County Sheriff's Department as a Deputy Sheriff on December 17, 1986, using the radio call sign 42-5. Gary graduated the 30th Iowa Police Academy Class on February 15, 1974. He was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church, Iowa Falls, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge # 1674, Iowa Falls, and the Iowa Sheriffs and Deputies Association.

Gary Olmstead is survived by his wife: Sue Olmstead of Iowa Falls, Iowa; his sons: Dr. Matthew [Dawn] Olmstead of Plover, Wisconsin and Daniel Olmstead of Iowa Falls, Iowa; his mother: Betty Olmstead of Webster City, Iowa; his sister: Rhonda Olmstead of Webster City; an uncle: Perry [Becky] Arnold of Webster City; two aunts: Ramona Olmstead of Webster City, Shirley [Charles] Seagren of Webster City; a niece: Jennifer Pingenot of West Des Moines, Iowa,. He was preceded in death by his father: Roy Olmstead, Jr.; an uncle: Jerry Olmstead and a brother-in-law: Larry Pingenot.
