Josie Esther Madden, mother of Sharon Perry, of Webster City and daughter of Albert and Ola Kerby Townsend was born May 20, 1920 at Burlington, KS. She received her education at Burlington, then attended Strictlors Business College at Topeka, KS. On September 1, 1941, she married Lawrence Earl Madden at Burlington. After their marriage, she worked for the federal government in Washington, D.C. as a secretary. The couple then farmed northeast of Overbrook, KS until 1967 when they moved to Overbrook. She was employed by the Postal Savings and Loan of Topeka, retiring at the age of 71. Lawrence Madden died in November of 1984. She moved to Crestview Apartments

in January of 2005 and to Crestview Senior Living November 4, 2006.

Mrs. Madden is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Bruce Perry of Webster City; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Sherrie Madden of Troy, IL; grandchildren, Matthew Perry of Ashburn, VA; Kristen and Mark Arkland of Webster City; Christopher Madden of Troy, IL; great-grandchildren; Austin Vandivier, Brandon Arkland, Allison Arkland, Bryanna Perry and Duncan Perry.sister, Mildred Novinger of Skandia, MI; brother, William Townsend of Burlington; sister-in-law, Margaret Wizer of Redlands, CA; step-sister, Margaret Marie Towry; cousins; Jean Litchfield of San Diego, CA; David Pantle of Baltimore, MD and Jim Pantle of Martinsburg, WV.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil Townsend.

She was a member of the Overbrook United Methodist Church, where memorials may be given, in lieu of flowers.

Josie Esther Madden, 87, of Webster City, died Sunday, March 16, 2008 at Crestview Senior Living, Webster City. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2008 at the Overbrook United Methodist Church
