Inez Elaine Vestweber was born Feb. 2, 1934 on a farm in Crystal Township, Hancock County, rural Britt, Iowa to Harvey Oliver Hansen and Evelyn Myrtle Christensen Hansen. She lived in the Crystal Lake area, graduating from Crystal Lake High School in 1951.

Aug. 17, 1952, she was married to Charles Andy Valley at St. John Lutheran Church in Woden. They resided in California, Wyoming and Iowa. To this union were born three children, Timothy Paul, Cindy Jo and Ramona Fae. The couple divorced in 1984.

Dec. 6, 1985, she was married to John William Vestweber at Trinity Lutheran Church in Webster City.

She is survived by son Timothy Valley, Webster City, daughters Cindy Thomas of Bentonville, Ark., Ramona and husband Michael Tankersley, Oak Harbor, Wash., and stepson Alan Vestweber and fiance Christine Hanson of Lehigh; sisters, Marilyn Korte of Waverly, Clare and husband Michael Wittenberg, Eau Claire, Wis.; and three grandchildren, Aaron Valley, James Thomas Jr. and Tamara Thomas.

She was precented in death by her husband, John, and her parents.

Elaine completed the Practical Nursing program at NIACC and went on to become an RN, graduating from ICCC in 1972. She worked at Hamilton Hospital for many years and was the manager of the Surgical Services Department for 22 years before retiring in 1996. She was certified in Operating Room Nursing and was a long time member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses. She served many years as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society as the Hamilton County Reach to Recovery Coordinator before she retired. She enjoyed her nursing career and has chosen to give her body to medical science so that others in the medical field may benefit.

Elaine enjoyed traveling and camping with her husband, reading and needlework. Elaine was confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Elaine passed away on Jan. 7, 2008 at Southfield Wellness Community of brain cancer. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
