Bertha Iverson Fjelland
Bertha Iverson Fjelland, 89, Minneapolis, Minn., formerly of Ames, died Friday, May 31, 1991 of cancer at Mt. Olivet Careview Nursing Home, Minneapolis. Two memorial services were held, the first on Monday, June 3, a5 11 a.m. at Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church, Minneapolis. The second service on Tuesday, June 4, at 1 p.m. at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Ames, with the Rev. Dave Nerdig officiating.
Bertha Tjernagel was born Dec. 27, 1911, in Randall to Peder and Johanna (Emberland) Tjernagel. In 1934 she married Bloyd Iverson in Dixon, Ill. In 1966 she married Burton Fjelland in Ames. She lived in Randall until her marriage in 1934, and lived in rural Stanhope from 1934 through 1955. She lived in Ames from 1955 until 1988, when she moved to Minneapolis. She was a draftsperson for the Road Design Department of the Iowa State Highway Commission. She also played the clarinet with the Farm Bureau "Oilers", a dance band/jazz combo. She was a member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church, associated with Norske Luthersk Mindekirken; a member of the Mt. Olivet-Lutheran Church, Minneapolis; Colonial Church in Edina, Minn; and the Order of the Eastern Star, Richfield Chapter No 293.
Survivors include one son, Roger Iverson of Richfield, Minn.; one stepson, Charles Fjelland, New Haven, Conn.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Bloyd Iverson, in 1963, and her second husband Burton Fjelland, in 1982.
