Surprise Announcement Party
Twelve Philathea girls met at the W.C. Merryman home Tuesday afternoon in response to invitations received.
Mrs. Merryman had a surprise in store for them. On a table, suspending from a large fern in the center, were streamers of blue and white - the Philathea colors - with small envelopes attached containing the announcement of the marriage of Miss Florence Lucille Farley to Arthur T. Chantrill on March 22, 1916.
The main feature of the afternoon was a mock wedding in which Miss Zella Powers, in bridal attire, took the leading part; the groom was represented by Miss Blanche Ferrell, the ring bearer by Gladys MeMoss (De Moss), and the flower girls by Marguerite Merryman and Fern Farley, with Miss Bunn as officiating clergyman reading the marriage rites from a dictionary.
Miss Emma Jaycox sang, "I'm glad I am an Old Maid." Other amusements were also indulged in.
A two course luncheon was served before the guests departed.
Those present were Mrs. Farley, Blanche Farley, Misses Lindquist, Gladys DeMoss, Mamie Prescott, Zella Powers, Ruth Bunn, Bernice Mullins, Rachel Hale, Emma Jaycox, Lucille and Fern Farley.
