Grace Mabel Johnson was born 10 Jan 1879 in Webster City Iowa and died 16 Dec 1968 also in Webster City, Iowa. The family lived on Merritt Street at the family home which was torn down to make a parking lot for a factory. Her parents were Hughes Herbert Johnson (1841-1887) and Amanda Nichols (1849-1932).

Grace had a sister Blanche Carrye Johnson who was born 9 Nov 1881 and died of TB 27 Dec 1901. She is buried in Graceland Cemetery near her family.
Grace's father Hughes Herbert was a private in Company A 25th Iowa Infantry. He died when Grace was only 8 years old. Grace was baptized in the Boone River in 1892 and graduated from Webster City High School in 1899.

Grace was married 21 June 1904 in Webster City to Ernest Elias Kneedy who she met when he was the minister at the Church of Christ. They had three children: Herbert William (1901-1957), Grace Isabel (1919-1920) and Robert Hughes (1922-2000).
She worked with her Aunt Amanda Morris Johnson who was a Miliner in town and at the hospital. She also worked at the hotel for a time to make money during the depression. She spent much time at the church and with her mother painting china and doing needlework. She was also active in the Daughters of the Union Veterans, GAR and OES.
