David McFarland, section 21, Hamilton Township, was born in Champaign County, Ohio, in April 1831, the eldest of eleven children of James and Rebecca (Yazel) McFarland. When he was eighteen years of age the family moved to McLean County, Illinois, where he lived until 1855, when he came to Hamilton County, Iowa, and first located in Webster Township, where he entered eighty acres of land. This he afterward sold and bought eighty acres in Hamilton Township, where he lived until 1880, when he went to Kansas, but the climate of the State not agreeing with him he returned to Iowa in 1882 and bought the place where he now lives. His residence is a fine story and a half fram, built in the spring of 1882, with all modern improvements, and is a model of convenience and good taste. Mr. McFarland is a practical farmer and everything about his farm indicates thrift and enterprise. In his political views he is a Republican. Although not an aspirant for official honors he has served two terms on the school board. He was married to Eliza Duckett, a native of McLean County, Illinois, daughter of James and Martha (Adams) Duckett. They have six children - James William, Joshua Lincoln, Mary Elizabeth, Edward Franklin, Laura Belle, and Barbara Luella.
