Rites Held Thursday for Lee M. Byars in Casey
Lee M. Byars, 72, of Casey passed away Sunday evening, March 7, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Funeral services were held Thursday morning, March 11, at the United Methodist Church in Casey, conducted by Pastor Ivan Rogers and Pastor Lillian Seagren. Carolyn DeWitt was the organist. Pallbearers were Darrin Plowman, Brian Plowman, Luke Larsen, Kenneth Lehman, Bob Sullins and Richard Kesselring. Honorary passbearers were Marv Larsen, Dale Kirkpatrick, Dean Plowman, Bob Hines and Bob Parkis. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery.
Lee Mark Byars was born May 12, 1920, at Des Moines, the son of Francis and Beatrice Sweet Byars. He grew up in the Des Moines, McGreagor, Audubon and Centerville areas, where he attended schools and attended Centerville High School. He worked in the first HyVee Store. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and flew 50 missions. After service he returned to Iowa.
He was married July 6, 1956, to Patricia Evans at Des Moines. He worked for John W. Nichols Associates Construction for several years and then for RJC Construction. He was a custodian for the Adair-Casey Schools from 1976 until retiring in 1988.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; one son, William Lee Byars of Exira; one daughter, Mrs. Paul (Brenda Lee) Lehman of Exira; two grandchildren; two sisters, Cleon Salgado of Los Angeles, Calif., and Myrna Owens of Fairfield; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Harry Byars.
