Fred R. Betts 82 year old native of the Bayard community, died Saturday morning at the Guthrie County hospital following one day there for treatment. Since retiring from farming he had lived in Bayard.
One of 13 children born to Alfred and Adelia Ferguson Betts, Mr. Betts was born in Guthrie County January 6, 1891. He served in World war 1 and was married to Floy Heater who preceded him in death in 1963.
He is survived by a daughter Florence Dodson of Renwick and sons Glen of Coon Rapids and Clyde of Jefferson, brothers Charles of Bayard and George of Guthrie Center and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Betts were held Monday at 2 p m from the United Methodist church in Coon Rapids and the pastor, Rev Alred Rau, officiating. Interment was made in the Union Township Cemetery with military rites under the direction of Gurney Parker Post Number 357 of Coon Rapids.
Mrs. Leverne Smith was organist and accompanied Sam Cretsinger and John Schumacher when they sang a duet. The casket was carried by Kenneth Wolf, Ernest Johnston, Gerald Vaughn and Kenneth, Donald and Dean Betts.
