Following a long illness, death came to Homer H Miller, longtime Bagley businessman, March 23, in Rochester, Minn.
Prior to coming to Bagley as operator of the variety store 25 years ago, Mr. Miller had been in business in Yale, Madrid and Chariton before coming back to Bagley where he had farmed.
A charter member of the Bagley Lions Club, Homer was a devoted member serving as secretary for several years. Also, he belonged to the Odd Fellows Lodge.
Final rites were held Tuesday at 2 pm from the Bagley United Methodist church with the pastor, Rev William Morehouse, officiating. Mrs. William Stanley was organist. The Casket was carried by Robert Gubser, Harold Morris, Howard Sheer, Everett Cain, Lynn Lloyd and George Brooks. Interment was made in Dodge cemetery.
Homer H Miller, son of George and Ella Williams Miller, was born June 3, 1894, in Texas county, Missouri, and passed away March 23 at Rochester, Minnesota, at the age of 78. As a young man Homer moved to Guthrie County.
March 25, 1916, he was united in marriage with Emma Grassmeier at Jefferson. They were the parents of one son, Paul.
Homer farmed in the Bagley area for a few years, then operated businesses in Yale, Madrid and Chariton before moving to Bagley where he has owned and operated a variety store for the past 25 years, retiring last October.
He was a member of the United Methodist church, was a charter member of the Lions Club and belonged to the IOOF Lodge No. 512, all in Bagley.
Homer was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Claude and one sister, Mrs. Faye Strunk. He is survived by his wife, Emma; son, Paul of Bagley; two granddaughters, Mrs. Patrick (Melinda)Powell of Anamosa and Miss Melissa Mary Miller of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. Floyd (Golda) Shelton of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Mrs. Delphia Dooley of Indianola; Mrs. Elva Llewellyn of Cedar Falls and Mrs. Pauline Clark of Bondurant; other relatives and friends.
