Mary Gotter Hedges, a pioneer resident of the Scranton community died Wednesday, December 29, 1976, at the Green County Medical Center. She had been a resident of the Bayard Care Center for the past year.
Funeral services were held at the Scranton United Methodist church, Friday, December 31, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev Clyde Sparks officiating. Nancy Hoyt was organist. Casket bearers were Roger McCullough, Harold Christensen, Jack Bass, Robert Seaman, William Rogan and Wayne Brown.
Mary Lillian Gotter was born on November 25, 1890, to Frederick and Tabitha Linn Gotter at the family homestead near Scranton. She attended the Scranton schools and had spent her entire life in the Scranton Community.
On 25, 1913, she was united in marriage to William R, Hedges of Scranton, To this union were born one son, Wayne, and one daughter Pearl (Mrs. Leo) Lovell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William, her parents, five brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her son, Wayne and wife, Jean; her daughter Pearl and husband, Leo, all of Scranton. Five grandchildren, Ken Hedges of Ankeny, Mrs. Richard (Jan Hedges) Reevers of Fairfield, Jane Lovell of Des Moines, Nancy Lovell of Iowa City and Mrs. Mike (Mary Sue Lovell) Ewald of Scranton, She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Hedges of the Green County Medical Center, and Mrs. Elsie Tolsdorf of Nampa, Idaho. She is survived by seven great grandchildren many nieces, nephews and host of friends. She was a charter member of the Providence United Methodist church.
