Funeral services for Mrs. Mahlon (Thelma) Rhoades were held Monday at 10 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson. The pastor, Rev. R. Rolland Ritter, officiated. Mrs. Dean McAtee was soloist and Mrs. Curtis Wilson accompanied her on the organ.
Serving as honorary bearers were Gary Rhoades, Tom Rhoades and Kevin Kroeger. The casket was carried by Denny, Tim and Terry Rhoades and James Parr, Jerry Lee and Clarence Baker. Interment was made in the Dawson Cemetery.
The Rhoades family lived a mile south of Bayard for many years prior to their retirement in 1967 when they moved to Jefferson. Mrs. Rhoades was active in community affairs in Bayard.
Thelma Gertrude Rhoades, daughter of John and Sarah Robinson Tolle, was born July 27, 1907, at Dawson, and died Saturday, January 15, in Carroll at the age of 69. She grew to womanhood in the Dawson area and attended school there.
On August 15, 1923, Thelma married Mahlon Rhoades in Jefferson. They were the parents of four children. Mr. and Mrs. Rhoades farmed in Green, Dallas and Guthrie counties for many years. In 1967 they moved to Jefferson. Mrs. Rhoades was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Evening Star Chapter No. 107 of the Order of he Eastern Star both in Jefferson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Mahlon, in April, 1972. son, Delmar, in October 1974, a sister and two brothers. Those who survive include a son Darrell of Boone, and a daughter Mrs. Melvin (Audrey) Kroeger of Golden, Colo; 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, one brother Kenneth E. Tolle of Dacono, Colo; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
