Ira Ray Nowels

Ira Ray Nowels was born in Clinton County, Iowa, March 9, 1876 and and passed away at the Boone County Hospital, August 23, 1954 at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 14 days.

He was the fourteenth child of Governor Roy and Emily Priscilla Nowels, all preceding him in death, except one sister, Mrs. Emma Howe of Sheridan, Montana.

His parents moved to Guthrie County, Iowa in 1880, where he spent most of his life.

On September 27, 1899, he was united in marriage to Alma Adeline Williams, who passed away in 1947. To this union four children were born, Russom Jewell of Coon Rapids, Alta Warner of Granger, Ralph of Boone and Eva Zenor of Mason City.

At an early age he became a member of the Presbyterian church.

He became affiliated with the Masonic Lodge of Bagley, when a young man.

In 1912 he moved his family to Filmore, Saskatchewan, Canada, where he was engaged in farming until 1923. The family came back to Guthrie County and settled at Yale where he has resided until the last few years.

Besides his children and sister he leaves seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church in Yale Wednesday afternoon August 25 conducted by Rev. Knight of Des Moines.

Shirley Renfrow and Dorothy Rogers sang "The Old Rugged Cross" accompanied on the organ by Paul Mockovak.

Casket bearers were Glenn Chaloupka, William Keebler, Warren Kunce, Elston Zaruba, Irwin Bean and Jay W. Hemphill.

Interment was in the Dodge Center Cemetery.
