Services Held For Mrs. Messner

Mrs. Jessie A. Messner, 87, mother of Mrs. Thomas Hadden, passed away Friday, April 15, at the Ward Memorial hospital here. For the past year and a half, Mrs. Messner had made her home here with her daughter, Mrs. Thomas Hadden and family. Services were held Sunday, April 17, at the Wesleyan Methodist church in Guthrie Center, with interment in Beargrove cemetery [Guthrie County, IA].

Obituary

Mrs. Jessie Adelia Saxton Messner was born at Beargrove, Iowa, March 2, 1862, and died April 15, 1949, at the age of 87 years, 1 month and 13 days.

She was the daughter of Sanford R. Saxton and Sarah Ann Miner Saxton. She was united in marriage to David R. Day. To this union four children were born: Glen Day, Grant Day, Mabel Day Archer of Peterson, Iowa, and Alice Day Kesselring.

After Mr. Day's departure from this life, she married William Henry Messner on October 20, 1897. To this union three children were born: Grace Messner Hadden of Primghar, Iowa; Lewis Messner of Guthrie Center, Iowa; and Cecile Messner Calvert of Manning, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by Mr. Messner, who passed away on October 24, 1933, and three of her children, Glen who died in infancy, Alice at the age of 21 years, and Grant at the age of 32 years. She also leaves to mourn her passing 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

She lived 72 years of her life at Beargrove, Iowa, and united with the Methodist church at an early age. She was active in church and Sunday school work, acting as organist, teacher or superintendent.

She shared her home with all who were in need, especially those who were doing church work. In time of need and sickness she kindly offered her services and supplies. She was blessed with a great amount of patience and lived a life that showed her abiding faith in God.
