Obit. BURKHARDT RITES HELD THURSDAY, JAN 4,1989
Clarence J. Burkhardt, 82, of Guthrie Center died of a lung ailment December 29,1989, at the Guthrie County Hospital. Services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church, of which he was a member. Burial was in Union Cemetery.
Mr. Burkhardt was born in Audubon and lived in Guthrie County most of his life. He was a retired farmer.
Surviving are his wife, Ilene; a daughter, Mary Howey, and a brother, Phillip, both of Guthrie Center; three sisters, Lois Eastman of Panora and Olivene Messinger and Anna Burkhardt, both of Guthrie Center; a grandchild and a great grandchild.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

Clarence James Burkhardt, son of Phillip and Phepbe Blake Burkhardt was born on Audubon County, on June 17,1907. He passed away at the Guthrie County Hospital, Guthrie Center, on December 29,1989.
Early in his life, the family moved to Guthrie County, where Clarence has made his home sence. On June 17,1928, Clarence was united in marrage to Ilene Hoyt, and to this union two daughters were born, Mary and Dorthy Joyce who died at birth.
A man of the land, he farmed a short time in Victory Township and then moved to a farm in Seely Township where he farmed for 42 years. He then retired to his home in Guthrie Center, But was still active in farming and helping on the farm until ill health made it impossible., He was a long time member of the Firdt Christian Church in Guthrie Center.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter, Dorthy Joyce.
To mourn his paaing he leaves his wife, Ilene of Guthrie Center, his daughter, Mary and her husband Eldon Howey of Guthrie Center, his grand daughter,Cheryl and her husband, Dale Oxley of Guthrie Center. and one great grandson, Daniel. There are also three sisters, Mrs. Harry ( Lois ) Eastman of Parnora,Annie Burkhardt, Mrs Wayne ( Olivene ) Messinger, and one brother, Phillip Burkhardt all of Guthrie Center. As well there are numerous other relatives and friends who will miss his passing.
Service for Mr. Burkhardt were held at the First Christian Church, Guthrie Center, on Tuesday, January 2,1990, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Jerry D. Palmer, officiating. Burail was at Union Cemetery, Guthrie Center.
