Allan “Scott” Miller, 60, of Denton, TX passed away at home the evening of November 19th, 2015. He was born on August 2nd, 1955 in Waterloo, IA to Arthur H. and Norma M. Filer Miller. He married Karen Ann Abbas on August 2nd 1980 in Ackley, IA. He was a member of Gracepointe Church in Denton. Scott was a Quality Assurance Supervisor at American Airlines.

Scott is survived by his wife of 35 years; Karen, of Denton. By his son; Nathan Miller and his wife Audrey of Story City, IA, and by his daughter Hannah Miller, of Denton. By his siblings; Stan and wife Phyllis of Platte City, MO, Virginia and husband Duane McClelland of Salem, OR, David and wife Joan of Atlantic, IA, Mark and partner George of Silver Springs, MD and Daniel and wife Vicki of Coralville, IA.

He is preceded in death by his parents Art and Norma Miller, by his parents-in-law George and Elizabeth Abbas, and by his sister Ruth.

Scott was the second youngest of the Buck Grove, Iowa Millers; of which there were many. Of that group of remarkable, talented, and creative prairie dwellers, Scott was the genius-level mechanic. He had one of those minds which could see the interior workings of machines, slow down time, and perform intuitive physics calculations to reverse-engineer machinery almost without thinking. He evolved this skill by working on everything from school buses to fighter jets. Scott served in the Air Force as a crew chief for a squadron of F-106 Delta Darts out of Minot, North Dakota. After earning his A&P license, Scott spent his remaining years working for commercial airlines including TWA and American Airlines.

To many of us, he was heroic. He always had time to show us the finer points of manhood; from repairing bicycles to fishing and pheasant hunting in a variety of patched-together old cars, such as “Sophie” and his Army Jeep. Scott was generous to a fault, had an unparalleled sense of humor, and was a great person to know at any level.

Scott’s family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors Monday night from 6 to 8:00 PM for visitation. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday at the Gracepointe Community Church in Denton with Pastor David Smith officiating. Burial will be at 2 PM Friday at Ackley Christian Reformed Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Gracepointe Church Food Bank in Scott’s name.
