Jerry Huisman Dead From Heart Attack

Jerry D. Huisman, of 403 8th Street, Grundy Center, age 79, passed away at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo on Wednesday, May 26, 1982 at 11:10 p.m. of a heart attack. He had been in the hospital for a half day.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 29, 1982 at 1:30 p.m. at the Holland Christian Reformed Church, Holland. Rev. William Van Hal officiated the service, assisted by Rev. Don Ringnalda.

Mrs. Henry Siefken and George Heronimus sang "More Like the Master" and "Where the Roses Never Fade." The congregation sang "Anywhere With Jesus." They were accompanied by Mrs. William Van Hal, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casket bearers were Darren Huisman, Dean Huisman, Jim Huisman, Jerry Huisman, Randall Kolthoff, and Rodney Kolthoff, all grandsons of Mr. Huisman.

Edwin Brower and Jasper Westerman served as ushers. Mrs. Edwin Brower and Mrs. Jasper Westerman were in charge of the floral arrangements. Joe D. Ross, Edward Schoolman, Jim Cox, L. C. Pike, Wilfred Coulson and Paul Coulson provided their cars for the family's use.

Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center. Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church following the committal services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshment.

Mr. Huisman was born on April 24, 1903 on a farm north of Wellsburg, German Township, Grundy County, IA. He attained the age of 79 years, one month and two days. He was the son of Dick and Tatjie Ross Huisman. He grew up around Wellsburg. On February 19, 1925 at Wellsburg he was united in marriage to Nettie Ross and after their marriage they farmed one year on a farm near Wellsburg. The couple moved to a farm near Holland until 1955 and then moved and made their home in Grundy Center.

He worked as a salesman for Heine Implement, O'Kones Implement, Greany Pontiac and Buick and Ross Pontiac and Buick garage. His wife passed away on January 19, 1981.

On November 5, 1981 at his home in Grundy Center he was married to Fannie Behrens.

He was a member of the Holland Christian Reformed Church, had served several terms on the consistory, and was now serving as assistant Elder. He served on the school board for Country School Colfax #6 and served on REC board and Farm Bureau board. He also did volunteer singing work for nine years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, one brother, Henry, and one granddaughter, Linda.

He is survived by his wife, Fannie; three sons, Donald and Raymond of Grundy Center and Leland of Parkersburg; one daughter, Mrs. Harlan (Imogene) Kolthoff of Wellsburg; three brothers, William Huisman of Parkersburg and Dick and Albert Huisman of Wellsburg; one sister, Mrs. Tielko (Gertie) Bunger of Wellsburg; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
