Michal Szegda, 96, of Omaha, NE, formerly of Grundy Center, passed away on November 7, 2018, in Omaha, NE. A funeral service for Michal will be held on Wednesday, November 14, at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be held before the service starting at 9 AM and will be held until that start of the service. Burial will follow the funeral service at Washington Township Cemetery in rural Morrison. Memorials may be directed to the family to be donated to a cause of their choosing at a later date. Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home is taking care of Michal and his family.

Michal Szegda was born on November 8, 1921, in Szegdy, Poland. Michal was united in marriage to Genofiga Eva Funk on May 19, 1948, in Hamburg, Germany. Michal and Eva immigrated to the United States in 1951, traveling 9 days by ship to Ellis Island, and then took a train to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They were picked up by Ivan and Helen Polluck, who took them to a farm near Morrison, Iowa. Michal and Eva lived in Morrison for a short time and then moved to Grundy Center. Michal worked for Rath Packing in Waterloo and later Richelieu Foods in Grundy Center. Michal loved to read his bible, loved to pray, and loved his Lord and Savior. Michal was a devoted family man and a loving husband.

Michal is survived by his children Mike Szegda of Davenport, IA, Danny (Laurie) Szegda of Omaha, NE, Julie (John) Abkes of Omaha, NE; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren.

Michal was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife, brothers and sisters.
