Elizabeth D. Rait

Miss Elizabeth D. Rait was born at Ellen Aberdeen Shire, Scotland, September 21, 1853. She has been a resident of Morrison, Iowa, since 1882.

Her sickness was a little short of three months and was of a painful and distressing nature and borne with Christian fortitude. The end came on the morning of July 10, 1907. The funeral took place on Friday afternoon the 12th in the Presbyterian church in Morrison conducted by Rev. H. B. Dye of Grundy Center. The floral decorations in the church were abundant and beautiful. Besides beautiful wreaths and boquets, there was noticeable harp in floral design, that symbol of heavenly music. This was appropriately suggestive as Miss Rait was for years the faithful and efficient organist of the church of which she was a devoted and useful member.

The large attendance signified the high esteem in which she was held in a community where she was so well known.

It is worthy of mention that during her sickness her many friends and neighbors were so devotedly attentive in ministering all that was possible for her comfort, a kindness which was especially appreciated, as since her fathers death about a year ago, she has lived alone in her home.

A good woman has gone to her reward and she will be missed.

The immediate relatives present at the funeral were Geo. Rait of Minneapolis; Wm. D. Rait and Geo. W. Rait of Perry, Iowa; Mrs. K. Kaufman and family of Morrison; Mrs. A. Rait and family of Reinbeck; and Mr. and Mrs. Mooty of Grundy Center. James Rait of Harve, Montana, eldest brother was not able to be there.
