Obituary

The funeral services of Mrs. Bessie Wasly Vickum was held in the Morrison church at 11 o'clock, Sunday morning, October 20th, and were concluded at the neighboring cemetery.

Bessie Wasley was born in Norway, July 17, 1806[sic]. She was confirmed in the Lutheran church when she was 15 years of age. At 24 years she was married to O. O. Vickum. Mr. and Mrs. Vickum started for the United States with their two little children in 1882. The little boy James died while they were on their way.

They lived for some time in St. Ansgar, Ia. A year in Reinbeck, ten years in Traer and in 1905 moved to Morrison.

Mrs. Vickum was ill for about two weeks and died Thursday, Oct. 17th. Her husband and three children, Mrs. Rachel Stearns, Mrs. Leva Mason and Carl were with her during her illness.

The other three children had preceded her to a better land. She leaves beside the husband and children, two sisters and one brother.

Mrs. Vickum was a noble woman and her family and friends will cherish her memory with tender love. She was scrupulously honest, always at work, patient and courageous when sickness and hardships met her family.

Mrs. Ole Vickum died at her home in Morrison Thursday night of typhoid fever. She was the wife of a former section boss here, and the family lived here ten of fifteen years before going to Morrison. Two daughters and one son are left, with the husband. One daughter is the wife of Frank Stearns, of Buckingham, who with several Traer friends, attended the funeral in Morrison Sunday.
