Mrs. M. M. Bakker Died Suddenly Sunday Evening

Mrs. M. M. Bakker died suddenly at her home in Morrison about six o'clock Sunday evening. She was preparing supper. Her son Louis was with her and helping her in the kitchen when she was suddenly stricken and she died within a few moments.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church at Morrison Wednesday afternoon. Because of the absence of the local pastor, Rev. R. L. Whitmore, Rev. Oliver Stevenson, pastor of the Presbyterian church in Grundy Center, had charge of the services. Burial was in the cemetery at Morrison.

Mrs. Bakker had not been well for more than a year. Last spring she submitted to a serious operation at the hospital at Iowa City. Both she and the family believed that she was daily getting nearer back to her normal health.

Mrs. Bakker was born in Platteville, Wis., Nov. 22, 1885, and she would have been 50 years old on her next birthday. Her maiden name was Alta Jane Parnell. On Feb. 21, 1911, she was married to Menne M. Bakker. The wedding took place in Dubuque. The couple came to Grundy county after the wedding and began housekeeping on the farm near Morrison where Mrs. Bakker died. They lived there for six years, when they moved to the Bakker farm in Lincoln township. Eight years ago they returned to the farm where they began married life together.

Surviving are the husband and two sons, Manne, 23, and Louis, 22, both of whom are at home. Other relatives are Mrs. Bakker's mother from Richland Center, Wis.; two brothers, Lester from Dubuque and Jess from Davenport; and two sisters, Mrs. Fred Doudna, Richland Center, Wis., and Mrs. Edward Doudna, Madison, Wis.
