Whitten Rites For John R. Reynolds

Funeral services were held Sunday from the Whitten Methodist Church for John R. Reynolds, a former Whitten resident who died in a Guthrie Center hospital Nov. 2. He was 75 years old.

The Rev. Wayne Wasta officiated with burial in the Benson Cemetery east of Whitten.

John Raymond Reynolds, the son of George H. and Eliza Jane Reynolds, was born Aug. 20, 1886, in Grundy county. At the age of six months, he moved with his family to Whitten. After concluding his education in the Whitten school he worked in his father's grocery store. He later became a barber.

On Oct. 27, 1909, he was married to Pearl Vroom of Whitten. They lived in Parkersburg a few months, then returned to Whitten where he purchased a barber shop. He operated the latter until the spring of 1916 when he and his family moved onto the Reynolds home place just west of Whitten. In 1935 they moved to Yale, Ia., where he and his son owned and operated a grocery store.

Survivors include two children, Charles Glen of Burney, Calif., and Mrs. Roger (Phyllis) Brown of Big Bend, Calif.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, Frank, of Marshalltown. He was preceded in death by Mrs. Reynolds in 1945, one sister, Nell, and two brothers, William and Preston.
