Robert B. Bavender, 80 of Whitten, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 10, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. The funeral service will be held on Monday, February 11, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Whitten Community Church in Whitten, Iowa. Memorials may be directed towards the family. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Robert and his family.

Robert was born on December 12, 1932, in Herman, Minnesota to Lawrence and Helen E. Eggleston Bavender. He graduated from Whitten High School in 1951 as Valedictorian. He enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean War during the 1950s. After the Army, Robert's passion was farming; he farmed outside of Alden as well as Iowa Falls until his retirement in 1983. During retirement, Robert got his license as a realtor and also worked with insurance and taxes at H & R Block. In his free time, Robert loved to read, his passion for politics and also picked up playing golf at the age of 65. He also loved farming, especially working with his livestock.

Robert is survived by his siblings: Katherine (Lynn) Yohn of Apple Valley, Minnesota; Lee (Tish) Bavender of Branson, Missouri; Rosemary Cervetti of Dewitt, Iowa; King (Maria) Bavender of Chaska, Minnesota and Ginger (Jon) Vandervort of Ankeny, Iowa. He is also survived by six nephews and six nieces.

Robert is preceded in death by both of his parents and nephew Brett Cervetti.
