Courtney William Marcus Koch, age 31, of Waverly, Iowa, died Sunday, May 5, 2019, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, from complications of a rare blood disorder (TTP) and Pneumonia.
Court was born on June 20, 1987, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Mark and Lynn (Osborn) Koch. He was raised in Melbourne, Iowa. Court was baptized in October of 1997 and confirmed in 2000, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, State Center, Iowa.
He attended West Marshall school system in State Center graduating from West Marshall High School in 2005. Court then attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where he was a Resident Assistant, graduating in 2010 with degrees in Special Education and History. He later attended Morningside College; Sioux City, Iowa, graduating in 2018 with his Master of Arts in Teaching.
On May 23, 2015, Court was united in marriage to Lynette Kay Wickman at St. Marys Catholic Church in Waverly. He started his teaching career in 2011 at Lenihan Intermediate School in Marshalltown, Iowa and in 2014, started teaching at Dike-New Hartford in Dike, Iowa, until his passing.
Court was a member at St. Marys Catholic Church in Waverly. He was honorable, loyal, and true to his family and friends. Court had a big heart and enjoyed serving and helping others whenever he could. He was courageous and ironically played the Cowardly Lion in his High School Play, going so far as to have the lions crown tattooed on his right arm. He'll be remembered as the goof ball that was always joking around and smiling. Court was an avid Superman fan and sports fan. His favorite teams were Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes, Green Bay Packers, and NASCARs Kevin Harvick.
Courts memory is honored by: his wife, Lynette Koch of Waverly, Iowa; a one year old daughter, Emery Lorraine Koch of Waverly; parents, Mark and Lynn Koch of Melbourne, Iowa; brother, Quinlan (Katherine) Koch of Omaha, Nebraska; grandfather, Darrell Koch of Wellsburg, Iowa; mother and father-in-law, Leo and Lois Wickman of Coggon, Iowa; four sisters-in-law, Diane (Dean) Barth of Walker, Iowa, Elaine (Tim) Zimmerman of Fairbank, Iowa, Rose (Michael) King of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Janell Wickman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two brothers-in-law, Carl (Cathy) Wickman of Springville, Iowa and Alan (Amy) Wickman of Monticello, Iowa; and eleven nieces and nephews.
Court was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Nedra Koch and Sally Rolston.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 10, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church; 2700 Horton Road, Waverly, Iowa, with Father David Ambrosy officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery in Wellsburg, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 9, at Dike-New Hartford High School Auditorium with a scripture service at 3:30 p.m. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and two hours prior to the mass on Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family to establish a scholarship fund in Courts name. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly is assisting the family with arrangements.
