Kay was born on April 24, 1939 in Wellsburg, Iowa to her parents Conrad and Mabel (Maas) Weichers. She attended and graduated from Wellsburg High School. On June 14, 1956, she was united in marriage to Lavern Van Heiden. They made their home in Wellsburg and together raised 5 children, celebrating 57 years of marriage at the time of Lavern’s passing in 2014.

Kay was a full-time mom until her children were grown. She then worked as the Activities Coordinator at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Long Term Care for over 25 years. She was very dedicated to her job and spent many hours of her free time, working to make everything special for her residents.

Being creative came naturally to Kay. She was an excellent seamstress, loved to crochet, cross-stitch, garden, do cross word and jigsaw puzzles, and watch basketball and baseball. Kay loved music and for several years was the choir director at St. Paul’s where she was a life-long member and took her turn serving on the council.

Spending time with her family is what Kay treasured most. The most important thing about Kay was that she had a strong faith in the Lord, gave unselfishly, was forgiving and loved unconditionally.

Kay is survived by her daughters Marcia Van Heiden & her friend LuDean Johnson; Paula (Larry) Klosterboer, and Sara Van Heiden; son Lance (Cindy) Van Heiden; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and brother Cliff (Judy) Weichers. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lavern; daughter Stacey; and brother Don Weichers.
