Mr. & Mrs. Henry Dudden Died On The Same Day
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dudden, widely known and highly honored Grundy county couple, both died on New Year's Day, 1954.
The end came for Mr. Dudden at the Grundy hospital at 3:15 in the morning. Mrs. Dudden who had been critically ill at her home for several weeks, followed her husband at 5:45 in the afternoon at her home. Had they lived until next March they would have been married 58 years.
Mr. Dudden suffered a heart attack the past summer which kept him a patient in the Grundy hospital for a week, after which he seemed to have recovered much of his former strength. He had a few minor attacks later and he was severely stricken eight days before his death and was again removed to the hospital. A blood clot set in one leg which helped to bring on the end.
Fell and Broke Hip
Mrs. Dudden had been a diabetic patient for several years and her health failed gradually during the past year. Several months ago she fell at her home and broke a bone in her hip. The shock resulting from this accident hastened her decline. She was a bed patient for many weeks before the end came. She was only conscious part of the time during the last days and she did not know that her husband had been severely stricken and removed to the hospital.Mr. Dudden was 85 years old last October and his wife was 81 in November. She had spent her entire life in Grundy county.
This revered old couple who had enjoyed daily companionship for nearly 58 years, remained united in death. They were laid to rest in the same grave in the Grundy Center cemetery.
