Fred Riekena Dies In So. Dakota

Fred Riekena, who spent the early part of his life in this locality, died in a Sioux Falls hospital last Saturday after a short illness. He was 78 years old.

Funeral services and burial were at Monroe, So. Dak., Tuesday.

Obituary
Frederikus Riekena, son of Mr. and Mrs. Johannes Riekena, was born Sept. 20, 1875, 3 1/2 miles west of Wellsburg. He was married to Angie Tjaden on March 5, 1900. Went to Monroe, S. Dak., where they farmed for many years, and later made their home in Monroe.

Mr. Riekena was taken to a hospital in Sioux Falls on May 22 and passed away May 30, of bleeding ulcers and complications. The funeral was Wednesday.

Surviving are his widow; one daughter, Emma, Mrs. George Dykstra; one son, Ted; 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; one brother, Wiard; and one sister, Annie, of Wellsburg. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, his parents, and four brothers: Dick, Ben, Trieno and Evert. The three latter were called home since March 5, 1951.
