Alfred "Al" Chrisman, 86, of Whitten, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad.

Funeral services for Al will be held on Monday, August 28, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Whitten Community Church in Whitten. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 27 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Al and his family.

Al Chrisman was born on April 9, 1931 in Sedan, Kansas to Alfred and Mabel Wiley Chrisman. He graduated from Whitten High School in 1948. Al served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1950 until 1952. In May of 1963, Al was united in marriage to Bessie Rhoades. Al had served for 60 plus years as a Whitten firefighter in Hardin County most of those years as chief and was captain of the E Squad and a reserve officer for Grundy and Hardin County. He was secretary and treasurer for the Thunderbird Flying Club, worked for Clapsaddle Sales and Service as well as owning his own welding shop for 35 years and farmed part time with his Dad until 1964. Al was a member of the Pine Lake CB Club and enjoyed radio controlled airplanes.

Al is survived by his daughter, Peg Chrisman of Madison, Kansas; grandson James McConkey of Madison, Kansas; nephew Mark (Debra) Jeske of New Providence; niece Dawn Fratzke of Jesup; great nephew Travis (Branigan) Jeske and their daughter Jensen of New Providence and great nieces Jenna (Seph) Amling and their son J.R. and Kayla Fratzke and her son Jericho.

Al is preceded in death by his wife Bess, parents Al and Mabel and sister Ruth (Gary) Walters.
