Old Settler Answers the Summons of Death

Preceded only by a few weeks in the sleep of death by the companion of a life-time, D. E. Beving, 84 years old, on Sunday, gave up the ghost. Physically weak and ailing for months he saw the approach of death and was prepared.

He came from a sturdy stock, and throughout the course of a well-spent life did not shirk or shrink from the duties incumbent upon him as a man and citizen. Living in simple faith, the glitter and show had no place with him. A plain man, he lived within bound, and he died honored.

He was father of seven children and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Casper Jutting, with whom since the death of his wife, January 8, he had made his home.

The funeral was held from the German township Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Schmidt, with P. C. Bakker in charge; there were many present to do the man whom they had honored in life, the last respects, and his remains were interred in the little cemetery adjoining the church.
