Kent Dale Johnson, 62 of Nevis, MN died Friday, October 29, 2010 at Innovis Health (Essentia) in Fargo, North Dakota. He leaves his wife of 38 years, Donna (Quinn) Johnson of Nevis, MN; his son, Ryan (Alicia) Johnson of Eau Claire, WI; his daughter, Kimberly (James) Bungert of Madison, WI; three grandchildren, Owen, Luke and Zack Johnson; his sister and brother-in-law, Norma (Donald) Heikens of Wellsburg, IA; two aunts, Henrietta Klooster of Aplington, IA and Henrietta Shipp of Evansdale, IA; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and many close friends.
As an adult, he lived in Nevis, MN after being born and raised in Wellsburg, IA, the son of Harry and Hermina (Klooster) Johnson of Wellsburg, IA, both of whom preceded him in death.
After graduating from Wellsburg Community School in 1965, he attended Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny, Iowa and graduated with an associate's degree in Refrigeration. Kent helped with the family farm, was a member of the United States Marine Corps, and owned and operated his own refrigeration and appliance repair business in Eldora, IA.
He met his wife, Donna Quinn, in Emmitsburg, IA and they were married in 1972. In 1979, he moved to Nevis, MN where he worked for Sears Roebuck for 16 years and later ran a private appliance repair business before retiring.
Kent had a passion for the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman, two attributes that brought him and his family to the Northwoods of Minnesota. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and was never happier than when surrounded by his children and grandchildren. His jovial sense of humor will be missed, and nobody could play Pepper like he could — nobody.
Memorial Services will be held on Friday, November 5th, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids, MN. Visitation will be held for 1 hour prior to the services at the church. Rev. Fr. Thomas Friedl will be the celebrant. Honorary Urnbearers will be Ron Okones, Ray Suth, Roger Clark, Glenn Baker, Don Heikens, Tony McKeown. His ashes will be spread in one of his favorite fishing spots: Lac Seul, Ontario, Canada. Following the service, a luncheon will be hosted at the St. Peter's Catholic Church in Park Rapids, MN.
