Mr. Jacob Leonard Hartman died at his home in Wellsburg, Sunday, May 7, 1899, after an illness of two weeks with typhoid fever. Deceased was born in Rich Hill township, Muskingdom county, Ohio, Nov. 2, 1859, and moved with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Josiah Hartman to Lyon county, Iowa, June 2, 1865. After residing there five years the family moved to Hardin City, where in 1878 the deceased purchased a farm on which he lived until the year 1893, when he removed to Wellsburg and engaged in blacksmithing. In 1885, he was united in marriage to Miss Edith Walling and to them eight children were born, all of whom survive, the oldest now being twelve years of age. Brief funeral services were held at the house Tuesday morning at nine o'clock, Rev. W. H. Jordan officiating, after which a number of friends followed the remains to the old home near Berlin, Hardin county, where all that was mortal of a kind and loving husband and father was laid to rest. Mr. Hartman was for ten years a member of the Friend's church, and was superintendent of the Presbyterian Sunday school organized here a few months ago, and a more faithful and efficient officer will be hard to find. He was one of our best citizens and leaves a host of friends in this community who sympathize with the sorrowing widow and fatherless little ones in their great bereavement.
Mrs. J. L. Hartman desires to extend thanks to the many friends and neighbors for their services during the recent illness and death of her beloved husband.
