Obituary

Mrs. Eugene Starr was born at Leon, Decatur Co., Iowa, Nov. 12, 1860. She moved with her parents to Grundy Center in 1875. She was married April 11, 1878. She died on Friday Nov. 30, 1888 after an illness of just one month.

The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, December 2nd. The sermon was preached by Rev. W. A. Pottle. The funeral services were under the auspices of the Lodge of Good Templars of which Mrs. Starr was a member and to which she had endeared herself by long and efficient services. Representatives from neighboring lodges were present.

Mrs. Starr with her husband, united with the Methodist church of Grundy Center five years ago; since that time has served the church with voice and hand.

She was a devoted wife. How truly does the poet voice the sentiment of the husband heart.

"What is there in the vale of life
Half so delightful as a wife,
When friendship, love, and peace combine
To stamp the marriage-bond divine."

Through the love of life and the wish to remain and minister to her family was healthful and therefore strong, yet, in view of death, she many times expressed her freedom from fear and her readiness to go.

In their sudden and great bereavement Mr. Starr and his family have the sympathy of the entire community.

We understand that Mr. Starr will remove for the present to his mothers home in Carpenter, Iowa, where he will take a much needed rest.

--Grundy County Republican (Grundy Center, Iowa), 5 December 1888, pg 5
