Ervin Duane Rewerts, age 74, of Outing, Minnesota, formerly of Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of Melvin and Jennie Mae (Hook) Rewerts on June 4, 1944, at DeBoer Sisters Maternity Home in Aplington. In 1962, Ervin graduated from Wellsburg High School in Wellsburg, Iowa.

On April 19, 1963, Ervin was united in marriage with Marcella (Sally) Karlene Kalkwarf at Kesley Presbyterian Church in Kesley, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple lived in Wellsburg where Ervin worked at Beving Hardware in Wellsburg. He also helped at the funeral home. In 1968, Ervin and Sally moved to a farm south of Aplington and Ervin began farming. Ervin also worked at Farmland Foods in Iowa Falls, Iowa, for 24 years. From 1978 to 1987, the couple owned and operated the “Wagon Wheel” western store in Aplington. In 2005, Ervin retired from farming and in 2011, Ervin and Sally moved to Outing, Minnesota.

After moving to Minnesota, they attended Emily Methodist Church, where Ervin served as a trustee. Ervin was baptized as a baby in rural Wellsburg and then again as an adult in Roosevelt Lake in Outing.

Ervin and Sally began going to a seasonal resort in Nevis, Minnesota in 1993, where he enjoyed fishing. Ervin also enjoyed riding horses and hunting. He was a member of Pheasants Forever, and maintained CRP acres for wildlife. Ervin had a heart of gold and enjoyed helping others. He annually bought several hundred pounds of potatoes and gave them away to the food bank, family and friends. He also had apple trees and a garden from which he shared his produce. Ervin’s greatest joy was time spent with his family.
