Edwin John McCarville, of Dike, Iowa, was born the son of Michael and Frances (Turek) McCarville on December 3, 1923, in Cresco, Iowa. In 1941 he graduated from Assumption High School, in Cresco, Iowa.

He served in the United States Marines from January 14, 1943, until he was honorably discharged on December 18, 1945. This was during World War II in the Pacific seeing action in three major battles; Bougainville, Guam and landed on the beach on Easter Sunday 1945 in the invasion of Okinawa.

On December 3, 1948, Ed was united in marriage with Inez Pruin at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They made their home and lived their entire married life in Dike. Ed was employed for 37 years at Clay Equipment in Cedar Falls and retired as a Receiving Foreman. He was a 72-year member of the American Legion, and also a member of Forty and Eight.

Ed died Sunday, April 30, 2017, at his home in Dike, from cancer. He was preceded in death by his sister, Aurilla Craft, and two brothers, Ray and David McCarville.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Inez McCarville of Dike; one sister, Madonna Reisner of Calmar; two brothers, Mike of Waterloo, and John (Judy) of Springfield, MO.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 4, 2017, at the Dike United Methodist Church with burial at the Elmwood Cemetery, both in Dike.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and 1 hour prior to services both at the church.

In lieu of flowers they may be directed to the church.

Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg is in charge of arrangements.
