Services Held Friday For Allie Biersner

Alexander "Allie" Biersner of Dike passed away at 2:58 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, at the Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.

Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church, Dike, on Friday, January 2, at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Shirley Textor officiated.

Craig DeBerg sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee." He was accompanied by Mrs. John Paige, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Grandsons serving as casket bearers were John Biersner, Bob Biersner, Keith Biersner, Larry Bausman, Jim Biersner, Tim Biersen, Terry Biersner, Jay Biersner, and Brian Biersner.

The ushers were Jack Heritage and John Volberding. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cain were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.

Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church following the committal service for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Mr. Biersner was born on July 4, 1899, at Seattle, WA, the son of Henry and Mary Barnson Biersner. He attained the age of 87 years, five months, and 26 days.

He came to Iowa when he was 11 years old and made his home with Hans and Esther Knuth in Stratford.

On August 12, 1930, he was united in marriage to Esther Westrum at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. They lived at Stratford until March of 1939, when they moved to Walla Walla, WA. In December of 1940, they moved back to Stratford. In 1944, they moved to Dike, later they lived in Washburn, moving back to Dike in 1967.

He retired from John Deere's on November 1, 1965, after 20 years of service.

He always enjoyed gardening and working outside on the yard. One of his great loves was playing cards around the table with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and three brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Esther of Dike; five sons, Roger of Waterloo, Earl, Marlyn (Sam), and James of Dike, and Ed of Riverside, CA; two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Donna) Bausman of Wellsburg and Avonell Biersner of Des Moines; and by 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Dike Funeral Chapel, Dike, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
