Elaine N. Ehlers, 95, of Reinbeck, died on February 14, 2019, at Parkview Manor Nursing Home while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 23, at 10:30 AM at Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Reinbeck with Reverend Joel Love officiating. There will be no formal memorial gathering before the start of the service. Inurnment will be held at Reinbeck City Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Parkview or the Grundy County Memorial Hospital. Abels Funeral And Cremation Service, French-Hand Chapel is taking care of Elaine and her family.

Elaine N. Ehlers was born on June 19, 1923, in Traer to her parents Carl and Katie (Christensen) Nelsen. She attended Traer High School. Elaine was united in marriage to Robert D. Ehlers on Oct 16, 1948, at The Little Brown Church in Nashua. She worked briefly at John Deere before leaving to be a mother and homemaker while assisting Robert on the family farm outside of Reinbeck. She and Robert had three children Patti, Jim, and Bill. Elaine and Robert moved into town in 1985 after retiring from farming. Elaine enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. She was known for her competitive spirit in both golfing and card games. Elaine was a member of Oak Leaf Country Club, golfing well into her 90’s, and held the coveted “club champion” title many times. She and Robert wintered in Pharr Texas for 22 years.

Elaine is survived by her loving husband Bob; children Patti (Dale) Richardson of Reinbeck, Jim (Deb) Ehlers of Waterloo, and Bill (Kim) Ehlers of Seattle, WA; grandchildren Josh (Ashley) Peterson, Jill (Jordan) Muller, Sarah (Dan) Turner, Ben (Whitney) Ehlers, and Jessica (Jody) Budde; 16 great grandchildren; loving wet-nosed companion Tilly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Wayne, Eldon, Mike, Harry, Daryl, and infant sister Dorothy.
