Mary Stahl was born on May 12, 1920, at home in Wellsburg to her parents William and Dora (Buss) Harms. She attended Country School Pleasant Valley #9. After school, she worked as a caretaker and nanny to children. Mary was united in marriage to Edwin Stahl on March 10, 1943, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church outside of Wellsburg. Edwin and Mary made their home on the farm, farming for 31 years. Mary worked hand-in-hand with Edwin, helping with chores and the day-to-day work. Eventually, they retired from farming and moved into town; after moving to town, Mary helped in the school cafeteria washing dishes for 10 years before retiring in 1986.
Mary cherished the time that she was able to spend with her family and friends; she was very close to her siblings and nieces and nephews. She enjoyed quilting and embordering and had both vegetable and flower gardens while she lived on the farm, canning her hard work to save for later. Mary was a member of the local card club and enjoyed having coffee with her friends. She loved spending her time babysitting and taking care of children. Mary was a life-long member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was a member of the women’s group and sang in the choir.
Mary is survived by her loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Ibeling, Dick, Willie, Tommy, Alfred, and Elmer, sisters Lena and Mable.
