Elisabeth Frances “Liz” Clapp, 90, of Dike, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at her home in Marion. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2019 at the Abels Funeral & Cremation Service, Dike Chapel 680 Main Street in Dike. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at the Dike United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery in Dike. Memorials may be directed to the church.

Liz was born on February 23, 1929 on a farm near Stout, Iowa. She was the daughter of George and Fannie (Berends) Viet. She was married to Harlan Beninga in 1948, they later divorced. She then married Joe Clapp, Jr. on November 21, 1958, he died on March 1, 1968.

Liz worked at several restaurants, Clay Equipment and the University of Northern Iowa, retiring from there in 1994.

Liz is survived by her son Vernon (Metta) Beninga of Cedar Rapids, IA; daughters Susan (Jay) Kruger of Poway, CA, Beth (Scott) Kirkevold of Waterloo, IA, Carol (Dan) Fox of Marion, IA and Debbie (Rob) Sproat of Amana, IA; 3 grandsons; 6 granddaughters; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Elaine Viet of Allison, IA and Lola Clapp of Cedar Falls, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joe; 3 granddaughters in infancy; sisters Martha and Jennie; brothers Ben, Herman, George and one in infancy.
