Marlys Sophia (Rohweder) Boege, 94, of Reinbeck, passed away on September 26, 2019, at Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Reinbeck. A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 29, from 4-6 PM at French-Hand Chapel in Reinbeck. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 30, at 10:30 AM at the Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Reinbeck with Reverend Joel Love officiating. Visitation will resume at the church at 9:15 AM. Interment will be held at Reinbeck City Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family. Abels Funeral and Cremation Service, French-Hand Chapel is caring for Marlys and her family.

Marlys Sophia Boege was born on March 17, 1925, south of Dike in Grant Township in Grundy County to her parents George and Emma (Horstman) Rohweder. Marlys graduated from Dike High School in 1944. After graduation, Marlys helped her father George with field work; she also helped expecting mothers with their house work. Marlys met her soon to be husband Ray E. Boege while working at the home of Ralph and Erna Boege; they were later married on October 11, 1948.

Marlys was a member of the Union Congregational United Church of Christ and actively participated and helped in many different roles and capacities. She loved to sew and made many of her children’s clothing. Above all else, Marlys was a mother and grandmother and cherished the time she could spend with her family, especially her grandchildren. Marlys was a talented baker and she was known far and wide for her cookies, having them on hand for visitors. She and Ray enjoyed spending time travelling across the United States together to attend many of Ray’s army reunions.

Marlys is survived by her children Leonard (Lucy) Boege of Cedar Falls, Merlyn Boege of Independence, MO, and Janet (David) Vobr of Waverly; 11 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Ann Goodman of Clinton, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Roger, 3 brother-in-laws, 6 sister-in-laws, daughter-in-law Susan Boege.
