George Carpenter Rose, 78, of Parkersburg, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 9th at the Abels Funeral and Cremation Service, Engelkes Chapel, from 10:00 a.m. until time of Masonic Rites, conducted by the Grundy Center Emerald Lodge 334 A.F. & A.M., beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Memorial may be directed to the family.

George was born on February 17, 1941 in Waterloo, Iowa, to his parents Joseph and Phyllis (Carpenter) Rose. He was raised in Grundy Center, and graduated from Grundy Center High School in the class of 1959. George earned his Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from UNI. George then enlisted in the United States Army and served in England, until his honorable discharge. He then returned to Iowa to begin his career as a teacher; later he joined his brother on the family farm.

George was an avid golfer, fisherman, reader, marksman and was a 50-year member the Emerald Lodge 334 in Grundy Center. He was a member of the Waterloo El Mecca Shrine Club, where he was a member of the band. George was also a member of the Grundy Center American Legion. However, his favorite pastime was arguing with his brother Wade.

George is survived by his sister-in-law Barb Rose; his nephew Mathew Wikert; nieces Andrea Blake and Amy Hinders; cousins JoAnn and Ann; and very good family friends Merlyn and Catherine Petersen and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Wade; and his sister Laura in infancy.
