Penny Elaine Snow, 76, of Reinbeck, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2019, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 10, from 4-7 PM at Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Reinbeck. A service will follow on Friday, October 11, at 10:30 AM at the church with Reverend Joel Love officiating. Visitation will resume at the church at 9:30 AM the day of the service. Interment will be held at Reinbeck City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be donated to a cause close to Penny’s heart at a later date. Abels Funeral and Cremation Service, French-Hand Chapel is taking care of Penny and her family.

Penny was born on October 13, 1942, in Newton, Iowa to her parents Knute and Kathy Troen. She attended and graduated from Newton High School with the class of 1960. She worked for Maytag Co. in Newton briefly where she met Dean Snow; they were later married on October 14, 1962, at the Lutheran Church in Newton. Penny and Dean made their home in Reinbeck, where she worked briefly for Lonergan Drug Store and later was employed as a teller for Lincoln Savings Bank. Due to health issues, she retired in 1981.

Penny enjoyed many hobbies in her free time, including counted cross stitch, flowers, spending time with the “birthday group,” and attending many of Kim’s school activities and sporting events. She loved to travel with Dean to many destinations and wintered in Florida for a number of years. Penny will be remembered for her cute sense of humor and for her cooking abilities. She ran a tight ship, making Dean dust and vacuum, which he despised immensely. Penny was a member of the United Church of Christ in Reinbeck and a 50+ year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Penny is survived by her loving husband, Dean of Reinbeck; daughter Kim of St. Petersburg, FL; mother Kathy Troen of Newton; brother David (Alicia) Troen of Newton; nephew Jeff Troen of Newton; niece Jennifer (Craig) VerHeul of Monroe, IA; several aunts and uncles; relatives in Bettendorf, IA and Lillestrom, Norway.

She was preceded in death by her father, Knute Troen.
