Sgt. Clapsaddle Victim In Last Days of War

Mrs. Perry Clapsaddle received a message from the War Department on Monday advising her that her husband, Master Sergeant Perry Clapsaddle, had been killed in action April 21st. On May 8 the War Department notified his wife that her husband had been missing in action since April 21. Since that time no information came to his family until Monday.

Sgt. Clapsaddle was with Patton's Third army, who were entering Czechoslovakia when he was killed. He was 30 years old. He enlisted in the service from Algona in January 1941. He served 19 months in Iceland. On October 28th of last year he and Wilma Ross were married at Wellsburg. After the wedding they went to Ft. Benning, Ga., where Sgt. Clapsaddle was stationed until he was sent overseas in January. When he was sent out his wife returned to the home of her folks, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Ross, in Wellsburg.

Memorial Services Sunday, August 5 for M-Sgt. Perry Clapsaddle

Memorial services will be held Sunday, August 5, at 2 p.m. at the Second Christian Reformed Church for M/Sgt. Perry J. Clapsaddle, who was killed in action in Germany on April 21, 1945. Rev. J. H. Rubingh will have charge of the services.

Sgt. Clapsaddle and Miss Wilma Ross were married in Wellsburg on October 28, 1944 and after their marriage they made their home at Ft. Benning, Ga., where he was located for some time before going overseas in January of this year. Word was received by Mrs. Clapsaddle on May 7 that her husband was reported missing in action and a number of weeks later the official word from the war department said that he had been killed in action.

Memorial Services Held Sunday for M-Sgt. Perry Clapsaddle

Memorial services were held for M/Sgt. Perry Clapsaddle Sunday, Aug. 5 at 2 p.m. at Second Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg.

A program appropriate to the occasion was rendered as follows: Prelude by Mrs. Ray Toomsen followed by the scripture reading and prayer. Mrs. Esther Beecroft and Mrs. Kathleen Kluver sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". The sermon was delivered by Rev. John H. Rubingh followed by the reading of the obituary. Vocal solos were rendered by Leland Luwe, "In the Land That Has No Years"; and by Mrs. Esther Beecroft, "Some Day I'll Understand". The program closed with prayer, the postlude being played by Mrs. Ray Toomsen. There was a very large crowd in attendance at the services.

Relatives and friends from a distance attending the services were Mrs. Verna E. Clapsaddle and Edna, Centuria, Wis.; Jessie Clapsaddle, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Earl C. Jones and Janelle, Boise, Idaho; George Clapsaddle, St. Paul, Minn.; Frank Clapsaddle, Corwith, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Steven, Algona, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Steven and Donald, Burt, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Lionel Clapsaddle, Mobridge, S.D.; Mrs. Frank Christensen, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Alvin Orht and Mr. and Mrs. John DeBerg, Cedar Falls, Iowa.
