Rites Held For Stoffer Gelder
Funeral services for Stoffer Gelder of Kamrar were held on Saturday, July 20, 1996, at 1:30 p.m. at the Community Church at Kamrar. The interment was in the Presbyterian Cemetery at Kamrar.
Stoffer Jans Gelder, the son of Dick and Marie Gray Gelder, was born April 29, 1917, at Cleves, Iowa. He was educated in the Buffalo Center area. He began carpentry work in the Wellsburg area. During World War II he served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Signal Corps, with tours of duty in both the European and North African theaters of action.
On June 17, 1947, he married Vianna Klaver at Nashua. The couple farmed south of Kamrar, where he was also engaged in carpentry work. In 1975 they retired to Kamrar because of failing health.
Stoffer is survived by his wife, Vianna; sons and daughters-in-law, Arlon and Vera Gelder of Columbia, Missouri, and Keith and Joan Gelder of Jewell; his daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Steve Steinberg of Buffalo Center, Iowa; grandchildren, Mike, Jon, Melissa, Brian and Steve Gelder, Joshua and Becky Staples; great-grandchildren, Megan Gelder, Remy and Alexia LaHue; sisters, Marie Redenius of Parkersburg, Harmina Huisman of Jewell, Violet Adams of Wellsburg, Annie Hammer of Globe, Arizona, Fannie Larson of Chula Vista, California, and brothers, Gerrit Gelder of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Leonard Gelder of Wellsburg, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Arnold Lee; a great-granddaughter, Taylor Gelder; brothers, Henry, Dick and Arnold Gelder, Darold Burma; and a sister, Dorothy Gelder.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Post of Fort Dodge, served the Community Church of Kamrar as an Elder, and also a member of the Men's Fellowship of the Community Church.
